£12 million later living complex to open in Jesmond

A £12 million later living complex in Newcastle is preparing to welcome new homeowners after contractor Tolent handed the project over.

Pegasus Jesmond Assembly is a new 63-apartment complex built for over-60s on the site of the former Newcastle High School for Girls.

Developed by Pegasus and designed by architects FaulknerBrowns, the development includes shared communal facilities, an owners lounge and first floor podium gardens.

Taking inspiration from its location on Eskdale Terrace which sits in the heart of the Brandling Village Conservation Area and South Jesmond Conservation Area, the design of the new scheme embodies the history, character and personality of the location, mirroring the look of the traditional Victorian terraces that surround it.

David Thompson, regional director for Tolent, said: “This was a flagship development for our client, and their first community north of Manchester, so it was important that we were able to deliver their vision for this project.

“Despite the construction and logistical challenges we have faced due to the ongoing pandemic, the team have handed over a fantastic project to a delighted client, and we hope the new homeowners will be very happy here.”

Pegasus is part of Lifestory, which offers homes and services for customers at every stage of their life through their brands: Anthology, Pegasus and Renaissance.

Mike Gill, regional managing director at Lifestory, added: “Being our first community in the North East of England, Pegasus Jesmond Assembly is an exciting project for us and we are proud to be bringing these exceptional later living apartments to the region.

“Despite the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic the Tolent team have done a great job in delivering Jesmond Assembly to the highest standard whilst adhering to tight safety measures.

“Jesmond Assembly has been designed to offer a sophisticated, contemporary and vibrant setting for socialising as well as a calm and relaxing environment in which to live.

“The community not only offers 63 stylish homes, but it also includes an owners’ lounge, a social kitchen and landscaped terrace. We’re looking forward to welcoming our first homeowners in March.”
