40 years on…

December 4, 2019

In 1979, land, property and business consultancy, George F. White opened its doors as a one-man band in the market town of Alnwick. This year, the firm has been celebrating 40 years of growth and success while looking towards the future

When George F. White was founded by George Francis White in the 70s, the business specialised exclusively in agricultural work such as acting on behalf of tenants, auctioneering and estate management. Over the past 40 years, the firm hasn’t looked back and has continued to bolster its presence, services and dynamic approach to the marketplace across the Northern regions.

George F. White now has six offices, a team of more than 100 and an abundance of services across the agricultural, commercial, residential and development sectors.

Engaging with young talent is something that the firm has championed since the team began to expand in the early days, often developing graduates through to equity partners.

Speaking about his development in the firm over the years, partner Richard Garland, says: “When I joined the firm as a graduate, I was well and truly thrown in at the deep end. I was allowed to spread my wings and discover what I was good at. It was then, and after a few successes of course, that I discovered a niche in planning and development surveying; in 2009, we launched a dedicated planning, architecture and development service, a team I lead to this day. This is just one example of how we, as a firm, stick to our roots, champion our people and allow them to lead the way to our future.”

Speaking about this year’s celebrations and the future of the business, Robyn Peat, managing partner reflects: “We have had a number of celebratory events across the year with our clients and colleagues.

“The communities that we operate in are very important to us as a business and it has been great to be able to share our successes and celebrate with those around us. In a world where the economic, employment and political landscape is changing at a rate of knots, it is extremely important that businesses are prepared to diversify to meet client needs.

“While the business has changed beyond recognition, it remains loyal to the founding ethos established by George; hard work, trust in the team to deliver client-focused solutions and never being afraid to explore new opportunities.

“This is evident in a number of areas of the business; over the past 12 months we’ve introduced and built upon a building surveying service and, on the back of our move into Newcastle , ensuring our more urban service offering is accessible in city centre locations.

“It’s a very exciting time at George F. White; I’m looking forward to seeing how we can continue to contribute to the region over the next 40 years!”
