Business Lunch: Kith & Kin

September 8, 2017

Chloe Holmes visits family-run Kith & Kin to sample the new foodie haven

Located in Whitley Bay, Kith & Kin is a ‘coffee and kitchen’ style café that opened just a few months ago but can already boast fantastic customer reviews. So, I couldn’t wait to try out the brunch and lunch menu for myself.

On arrival, a warm welcome from the friendly staff soon made my colleague and me feel relaxed, and we settled ourselves in the bright and spacious sunroom at the back. The contemporary décor and unique decorative items create a laid-back, modern feel.

Eve Jones, head chef and co-owner, uses wholesome and seasonal produce to create an inspiring and interesting menu, with culinary influences from around the world.

Utilising local producers and suppliers such as Pink Lane Coffee Roastery, Easy Teasy, Nicholson’s Butchers and Sweet Love Cakes and Bakes, the café is proud to be supporting local and independent businesses.

After seeing so many ‘insta-worthy’ shots of The Aussie, there was no question which dish I would be choosing on my visit. The vibrant plate was packed with hearty and nutritious flavour; no wonder it has become such a popular choice!

My colleague tucked in to the Kith & Kin steak sarnie with perfectly cooked pink steak and a delicious herby olive oil dressing, proving it to be a worthy dish for the menu.

The pleasant surprise on the day of our visit was the crayfish and pear salad, full of fresh and citrusy flavours – it’s definitively worth a try as a lighter option.

For dessert, we tried a new dish – strawberry French toast, with vanilla mascarpone and toasted pistachio nuts. This would be a fantastic sweeter alternative for brunch or the perfect dessert. Kith & Kin also stock a fantastic range of artisan pastries and homemade cakes and scones to enjoy with your coffee.

With all of the above, weekly specials and plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options too, there is something for everyone.

Kith & Kin proved to be an ideal location for a working lunch, with great coffee, tasty food and a welcoming environment.
