Zucchini has a bright and spacious dining area, located in Newcastle city centre on Pilgrim Street.
The pasta bar has an open kitchen and counter, and dishes are available to enjoy over a leisurely lunch or on the go.
As the first ‘pasta bar’ in the North East, Zucchini is offering something different, with honest plates of fresh pasta at an affordable price. A simple concept that owner Alan Barker has successfully accomplished in the dining experience.
Our server, Lucy, was friendly, super-welcoming and served us with a laid-back ease to match the informal atmosphere.
For the health-conscious diner, Zucchini serves freshly-prepared pasta, made with good-quality ingredients; a healthier option to the dried alternative.
The menu includes a selection of drinks to enjoy. For lunchtime refreshment, there is a choice of fruit juices and organic coffee. Or, if you would like an alcoholic tipple, there are two organic house wines, a bottled beer and a fizz. I recommend the bellini!
The menu is simply crafted, with a selection of pasta fresca (fresh), pasta secca (dried), side dishes, and four choices of dessert. There is also an option for both gluten-free and vegetarian diners.
I opted to try the taglierini with shrimp, raw zucchini and lemon butter – a fresh and zesty dish, and a brilliant choice for a light, energising lunch.
The beef and rosemary ragu was tender and packed with flavour – a generous portion for lunch and very satisfying!
Our dishes were accompanied by a delicious selection of sides: thick, soft and indulgent sourdough bread, olives, and pork and fennel meatballs. At only £2.50 each, it’s a really affordable way to add a little extra to your lunch.
And to finish, the tiramisu was rich and indulgent, just as it should be!
Zucchini absolutely delivers on the promise of fresh and wholesome flavours at an affordable price. Buon appetito!
