Lawyer steps it up with cross-border qualification

North East based law firm Gordon Brown Law Firm LLP is continuing to strengthen its services as partner Rebecca Harbron-Gray steps up to complete a specialist course in cross-border estates

At present, Rebecca Harbron-Gray, who heads up wills trust and probate at Gordon Brown Law Firm (GBLF), is the only listed solicitor in the North East and one of only 50 in the UK with The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) diploma in Offshore Estates.

The qualification required a written assessment and home learning over a significant period of time, looking at different issues that arise when dealing with cross-border estate planning and succession worldwide.

Rebecca’s accreditation enables Gordon Brown Law Firm to extend its range of services internationally and across different legal systems, as well as deal effectively with complex issues of estate administration across multiple authorities.

Commenting on her qualification, Rebecca says: “We are coming across more and more families in the North East who are inheriting assets from abroad or having an international dimension to their own estates – mainly in European Expat areas or those working in UAE countries. I wanted to widen my knowledge and provide an invaluable service for our clients as it can be a difficult situation to find yourself in.”

Managing partner, Kathryn Taylor, says: “Rebecca’s new qualification is a fantastic achievement, which allows us to offer clients an extra dimension and support those here in the North East with cases containing international assets. As a firm, we are passionate about developing our existing talent and bucking the trend of the ‘traditional’ law firm.”
