The best thing about the North East is it has the best people, work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit in the UK – also the benefit of the airport and rail links to other cities for work. The region has the city, countryside and coastline all within easy reach, which makes the North East truly amazing.
My favourite area of the North East is a toss up between Gosforth, where I was brought up and Killingworth Village where I live now.
My favourite place to spend some quality leisure time is in Warkworth – where my grandmother’s family came from. I enjoy walking on the beach and visiting The Black Bull pub, which my grandparents owned back in the day. It’s a slice of history for the region but also my family.
Cafe 21 is the best place to eat in Newcastle. All our family birthdays and celebrations take place there. My son’s 21st was a special time indeed.
Jesmond Dene House is another favourite of mine. Its tranquility, history, class and fabulous surroundings are great for a client meeting. It’s like an oasis in the city.
We should be most proud of Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. I have seen how its regeneration has changed the face of the entrance to our wonderful area. Only topped by the North Shields Fish Quay, where my Nana worked many years ago and is now a top visit – the fish and chips are immense.
The best view in the North East is from my house. I can see Penshaw Monument, Gateshead, Newcastle and Consett.
The lights at night across the landscape are very special and make me feel so lucky to live where I do. My mum always says, ‘if you could bottle that view…’
I think when you are born and bred in the North East you have the DNA for the region. I feel exceptionally proud to be from this area and promote it as much as I can. The camaraderie and spirit of the people is something that is lauded the world over. It is a special place for me and all of my family and always will be.
If I could add anything to the North East, it would be a massive catapult to shorten the journey to London!
