Navigating the tender process

Executive Compass has helped secure millions in contracts for North East firms, reveals director of sales and marketing Amy Forshaw

Executive Compass is one of the largest national bid and tender writing consultancies in the UK, helping clients of all sizes to secure more contracts in both the public and private sectors. Although the company works across the UK, it is firmly rooted in the North East and is committed to supporting firms in the area to grow and succeed in the region and beyond.

Growing your business

Most organisations will undoubtedly come across the tender process to secure new work, as even low-value works are awarded through a transparent public procurement process that requires firms to submit a bid to the buyer.

Securing contracts is a great way to grow your business, as they can provide a clearly defined pipeline of work and income for your organisation. Most public sector contracts are in place for at least two years, and can usually be extended based on positive performance, which can result in a long-term relationship with a buyer and increased exposure and experience for your company.

Bid for Sellafield

Executive Compass recently assisted KAEFER, the Jarrow-based subsidiary of German company KAEFER, to secure a £360 million access and installation contract for Sellafield. Working with the Jarrow-based KAEFER team provided a great opportunity for the Executive Compass team to integrate and provide support throughout the tender process.

Tender submissions of this size and complexity require robust bid management and a team of skilled writers to create a winning proposal. After a two-year bidding process, KAEFER were awarded the contract and are currently working on the Sellafield site. This bid in particular was beneficial for the local area and helped support the economy through the use of local labour – an aspect that really appealed to Executive Compass.

SME contracts and supporting businesses in the North East

Although the KAEFER bid was a great win for Executive Compass, they don’t just work on high-profile, high-value projects. They work with companies of all sizes, including owner-managed businesses. Crucially, they spend time really getting to know the organisations and helping them to grow and achieve further success in their sectors. Typical clients in the North East are social care providers; asbestos removals, grounds maintenance and construction contactors; and colleges and educational establishments.

There are numerous contract opportunities available in the North East, commissioned by local authorities, housing associations and procurement bodies such as NEPO, which has been proactive in making opportunities accessible to SMEs. Executive Compass can assist all businesses to grow and secure contracts through their knowledge of the bid and tender process, their attention to detail and the rigorous quality management processes that smaller bid writing firms cannot match.

Based in Hoults Yard, the consultancy provides a flexible approach to bidding and can integrate with businesses very easily. The knowledge it has of the public sector is invaluable to companies entering into the tendering process. The firm has a team of nine dedicated bid writers with experience across all industry sectors, having completed over 3,500 bids since formation in 2009.

Executive Compass’ aim for 2018 is to support more clients in the North East to grow and achieve further success in the region. The company has just launched business improvement services, headed up by Managing Consultant Ryan Noble, which will continue to drive the firm’s focus on quality and long-term relationships with clients.
