New name in house building

November 1, 2018

While still a relatively new name in the housebuilding market, Tantallon Homes has made its mark in a short time

With one successful award-winning development already under its belt, another underway, and with plans for 100 new homes in the near future, Tantallon has been hailed as a key new addition to the North East property sector

The business, which only completed its firstdevelopment last year, has big ambitions to acquire new sites for development across the region, to create properties both to buy and to let – and with negotiations already underway over several such opportunities, Tantallon isunderstandably confident for the future.

Founded and run by directors Peter Stoker, Paul Bell and James Bell the business has a wealth of experience of the housebuilding sector. Peter was commercial director of Bellway for many years, retiring in 2011, and Paul and James are both members of the family who founded the housebuilding giant in 1946. Tantallon develops in collaboration with contractor PCD UK, led by highly experienced developer Craig McClen, who works closely with Paul, Peter and James to bring plans to reality.

Its first site, Tantallon Court in Dudley, NorthTyneside, regenerated the site of the dilapidated former village school to create a 14-property development, which now sits in the heart of the local community.

The development, which sold all of its four-bedroom properties within the first few weeks ofbeing released onto the market, was recognised for its outstanding design and build quality through being shortlisted for the ‘best small new housing development’ award in the Northern LABC Building Excellence Awards. PCD won the award for the best partnership for its close collaboration with the local authority building control team during its work on Tantallon Court. Tantallon is now working on Sea View, a prestige development in Longframlington, Northumberland, of two premium properties, and a planning application has been made for a development of 58 properties on another site in the village.

The housebuilder has plans for 100 units at planning application stage, but plans for further developments are currently being drawn up, with ongoing discussions over site acquisitions.

Peter Stoker, director of Tantallon Homes, says: “We have big plans in the pipeline to bring many more outstanding homes to families across the North East – this is a very exciting time for Tantallon.”

Craig McClen says: “We have ambitious but achievable plans for more developments across the region and are in the process of acquiring sites – we are on the lookout for more suitable sites and are keen to hear from landowners who have development land to sell. Tantallon Homes is committed to creating functional family properties, outstanding in their quality and design, and that will be characteristic of every home we build.”

James Bell adds: “It is great to work alongside Peter and Paul, who I have known all my life, and Craig to follow in my family’s footsteps and build an ambitious new name in the housing market.”

Nicholson Nairn Architects continue to work with Tantallon Homes and PCD from conception to completion in all of their projects. Tony Nicholson, partner at Nicholson Nairn Architects says, “It’s been a privilege working alongside Tantallon Homes and assisting them in the growth of their business. They are an ambitious and very professional team and we are excited by the projects that have in the pipeline.
