Graeme Storm

After winning The British Amateur Championship in 1999, Hartlepool-born Graeme Storm has played as a professional golfer on the European Tour for over 17 years – with four professional victories to his name. This month, he will compete in the British Masters at Close House Golf Course at Heddon-on-the-Wall

Golf has been my life for as long as I can remember. I was introduced to the sport by my grandfather and began playing at Hartlepool Golf Club. I now represent Rockliffe Hall as its touring professional.

My fondest memories of the North East are playing junior golf around the region and building lifelong friendships.

Growing the game of golf in the North East is an ever-increasing passion of mine and something I want to build on in years to come.

Newcastle is such a vibrant, energetic and friendly city. I visit to eat, drink, shop and socialise.

House of Tides is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in the North East. I have a passion for good food and drink and the quality of food, service and ambience at this Newcastle restaurant is first class.

The visitor attraction the North East should be proudest of is Durham Castle and Cathedral. The cathedral’s Romanesque architecture has amazing detail and I’ve enjoyed many memorable evenings in the castle for Durham County Golf Dinners.

The best view in the North East, for me, is from an aeroplane when flying home and seeing the beautiful coastline before landing at Newcastle International Airport.

If I could build anything in the North East, it would be my own links golf course along the beautiful coastline.
