Award-winning Newcastle restaurant, Blackfriars, has launched a new takeaway service.

Voted Taste of the North East at last year’s North East Tourism Awards, Blackfriars will be serving the most popular signature dishes from its menu.

These include starters of Northumbrian ham terrine with piccalilli, fennel; Smoked mackerel pâté, dill pickled cucumber with crispy sourdough; and Young goats’ cheese, candied walnut & roast beetroot salad.

For mains, Slow-cooked ox cheek, horseradish mash, Savoy cabbage, braised shallot; Roast pork shoulder, cheddar mash, braised leek, North Sea fish pie; and Butternut squash, chickpea & spinach curry with wild rice will be offered.

Choose between Sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel sauce and Classic Eton mess for desserts.

The ‘Best Sunday Roast in the North East’ as voted by the Independent and Time Out Magazine will also be available.

Customers can choose from Slow-cooked ox cheek; Roast pork shoulder or Pan haggerty all served with cauliflower cheese, seasonal greens, roast potatoes, mash, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

Meals are available from 4-7pm on Friday and Saturday and from 12-4pm on Sundays and are priced at one course £15, 2 courses £18 and 3 for £21.

Andy Hook, owner of Blackfriars said: “As we’re now approaching week ten of lockdown, we want to start making gradual steps towards what we hope will be a reopening sometime in July.

“We’ve been incredibly grateful of the messages of support we’ve received throughout lockdown and want to give something back.

“We thought the time was right to launch our delivery and collection service to give our loyal customers a bit of Blackfriars’ award-winning food at home.

“And then in the coming weeks and months, as it is safe to open the restaurant, we will offer both the in-restaurant experience and takeaway service.

“We have also rescheduled our themed wine lunches and dinners, cookery classes and Tastings to later in the summer.”

The restaurant will be abiding by all health and safety guidelines for collection and delivery with no cash payments.
