Chaloner Group reveals 131-apartment Middlesbrough development plans

A regeneration firm has revealed plans for a major residential development in a North East town.

Chaloner Group hopes to build 131 one and two-bedroom apartments in Middlesbrough.

Earmarked for land currently used as a car park in the town’s Corporation Road, bosses say the scheme will also include ground-floor commercial and hospitality space.

They say the blueprint – which is subject to planning permission – will be delivered for Middlesbrough Development Company, the wholly-owned trading company of Middlesbrough Council.

Chaloner Group has already appointed a team to deliver the project, which includes Middlesbrough-based Logic Architecture and project manager Avison Young.

Geoff Hogg, Chaloner Group chief executive, [pictured] said: “This development will enhance the community in the vibrant and eclectic Corporation Road area and create much-needed town centre living opportunities.

“Urban living is becoming increasingly desirable, particularly among young professionals who want to be close to their work and leisure.

“The apartments will be part of Middlesbrough’s continued evolution as a social, cultural and economic destination, and help attract and retain high-quality professional people to the town and support the growing prosperity of the area.”

Tony Dodds, Middlesbrough Development Company managing director, added: “This will be a landmark development for Middlesbrough, and it demonstrates the council’s commitment to investment in the area.”

The site where the development is planned to sit once housed the Cleveland Scientific Institute, which was demolished in 2006.

A planning application is expected to be submitted in the next two months.

If successful, officials say construction will start around six months after the decision.
