Gordon Brown Law promotes associate solicitor to partner

Gordon Brown Law LLP (GBLF) has raised the bar high in its growing senior team by promoting associate solicitor Guy Barr to partner.

Guy, who joined the firm in October 2017, will step up to partner within the dispute resolution team. His promotion marks a significant milestone in his career to date and brings the total number of partners at GBLF to six.

Qualifying as a solicitor in 2006, Guy has considerable litigation experience, particularly in the field of professional negligence, and has spent his time at GBLF providing advice around disputes, risks and wider commercial issues to a client base of businesses and individuals.

The promotion to partner will see Guy take on a greater degree of management responsibility and will provide an opportunity to generate work in a way that will allow the dispute team to continue to take the firm forward.

Guy said: “I’ve had a fascinating journey at GBLF so far and I’m absolutely thrilled to have been promoted to partner. Throughout the time I have been at GBLF, I have been given both the support and freedom to develop my practice and I’m looking forward to continuing building on that.

“My new role will see me take on a more managerial position and I will work with the team to continue to service the needs of our clients. I’m excited to have the opportunity to work closely with our managing partner Kathryn and the other partners to continue with the growth of the firm here in the region.”

Guy’s promotion comes as GBLF continues to position the firm as the law specialists of choice in the region. The firm, which was founded in 1981, currently employs over 80 members of staff across its Newcastle and Chester-Le-Street offices.

Kathryn Taylor, managing partner at GBLF, added: “We originally brought Guy on board to enhance our dispute resolution offering and he’s been a great addition to our team, acting in numerous cases involving commercial and private litigation, contentious probate, claims against shareholders and directors, breaches of contract, insolvency and insurance disputes.

“Guy’s extensive knowledge and practice experience has enabled our services to grow and we’re so pleased to promote him to partner, which will allow him to continue developing his career with us.

“We take staff progression seriously here at GBLF and as our firm continues to grow, we intend to give both our staff and clients the opportunity to grow along with us.”
