Northern Gas and Power backs UK’s first Net Zero Week

A North East energy consultancy is supporting a new initiative aimed at decarbonising the country.

Northern Gas and Power has been named principal sponsor of the UK’s first Net Zero Week.

Running between July 17 and 23, officials say the Government and industry-backed event will generate awareness for businesses beginning their decarbonisation journeys and support those already on their way.

It comes after the Government committed to reducing all greenhouse gas emissions across the UK to net zero by 2050.

Fokhrul Islam, founder and chief executive at Gateshead-headquartered Northern Gas and Power [pictured], said: “This is a hugely powerful initiative, which will drive greater awareness of the impact of climate change and promote stronger collaboration across the industry.

“If we work together now, as a sector and as businesses, we have a golden opportunity to achieve a net zero carbon future.

“We all have an important part to play in this vital goal and we are proud to be principal sponsor of the inaugural Net Zero Week.”

Tim McManan-Smith, head of external affairs at Net Zero Week, added: “It is great to have such a trusted and dominant energy consultancy on board in our inaugural year.

“We will be working closely with Northern Gas and Power and the many associations partnering the week to make sure we raise awareness and inspire businesses on their path towards net zero.”

Bosses say Net Zero Week 2021 will feature a free-to-attend webinar and podcast programme.

Furthermore, between July 14 and 16, a number of webinar sessions will also take place.
