Wearside healthcare platform pledges support to community sport

A common approach to turning the coronavirus crisis on its head has prompted two North East organisations to share expertise and explore fresh opportunities.

Sunderland-based health care and wellbeing platform Medintu is working with North Shields service provider GiveToLocal to help communities across the UK live healthier and happier lives.

And in the week Medintu made CE-approved home self-sampling COVID-19 antibody tests and COVID-19 PCR swab tests available to employers and their staff, CEO Reddy Sanikommu revealed it has never been more important to work with like-minded organisations looking to improve mental and physical health.

“That’s why I was keen to talk to Neil Gardiner at GiveToLocal,” he explained.

“GiveToLocal is aligned to our own approach to the coronavirus crisis insofar as we see this as a time to support local communities and do what we can to help people negotiate a challenging period.

“Lets’ face it – the business world is not talking business now. It is focusing on what it can give back and how it can help.

“Both Medintu and GiveToLocal understand that.

“We have just introduced free-to-access livestreams dealing with issues such as mental health and how to self-isolate – we’re delivering expert advice at a time when people need it most and doing what we can to make a small difference.

“Having spoken to Neil – and heard all about the #InspiredToGive campaign and the 21 Days of Giveways initiative – it’s clear that GiveToLocal are of the same mindset.

“GiveToLocal shares the same principles as Medintu and we’re excited about how we can work together to promote the work we do and make a difference to communities across the UK.”

Medintu was founded in 2015 and set up its UK headquarters on Wearside at Sunderland’s North East Business Innovation Centre three years later.

Its immediate and positive impact on workforces across the country caught the eye of GiveToLocal co-founder and CEO Neil Gardiner.

And he explained: “Reddy and his team have spotted an opportunity to improve the health of employees and better inform them of how they can enjoy a more positive lifestyle.

“Their key message around workers living healthier and happier lives resonates with our #InspiredToGive campaign focusing on community sport and its lasting benefit.

“Engaging in exercise and becoming involved in the local community contributes to healthy minds and healthy bodies – in turn that leads to a more productive workforce and happier employees.

“It’s clear that so many of the key messages GiveToLocal promotes complement the core values Reddy has placed at the heart of Medintu.”

Medintu provides a subscription-based service to employers keen to provide added value to their workforce.

Employees input health-related information to a smartphone-based app and access real-time feedback enabling them to make lasting changes to their lifestyles.

“Our message is all about preventative health care,” explained Reddy.

“We encourage a proactive approach to health care in order to limit the impact of longer term health problems further down the line.

“We’re empowering people and encouraging them to take control of their own health.

“Our app is available to employers and they can then pass that on to employees as an added benefit.

“Having access to the Medintu app means employees feel more engaged and from the employers’ perspective it can help to reduce absenteeism and improve productivity.”
