Wiring work win at former Olympic site

A North East company took its place on the podium of suppliers for one of London’s most high-profile developments.

Apex Wiring Solutions supplied full modular wiring systems for UCL London, during construction of its latest building, on land that was regenerated for the 2012 London Olympics.

The Durham-based company designed, developed and manufactured a complete modular wiring system that was installed throughout every level of the prestigious Marshgate Building, UCL London’s latest development at its East End campus.

The Marshgate Building overlooks Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the capital’s largest regeneration site. Apex supplied 200,000metres of cable to the project.

Apex managing director, Dave Lewis, said: “Apex has developed an impressive portfolio of high-profile projects in London and our reputation to deliver has grown throughout the UK.

“The Marshgate Building is the latest eye-catching scheme on a site awash with fantastic developments that represent a fantastic legacy from the 2012 Olympics.”

Apex was appointed by mechanical and electrical contractors, Dornan, to design and manufacture a complete modular wiring system throughout every level of the Marshgate Building.

The £215m project was designed by architect Stanton Williams, and comprises a nine-floor academic block with two floors of rooftop space and a partial basement. Work started in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2022.

The project is part of the £1.1bn East Bank development, a collection of cultural and education institutions, including the London College of Fashion, BBC Music, Sadler’s Wells and the Victoria & Albert Museum’s collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution.

Marshgate will be home to new degree programmes, research, innovation and technologies from across eight UCL faculties.

“It is vital that as the UK recovers from the impacts of the COVID pandemic, people and businesses look to buy British and support our economic fightback,” added Dave.

“UK manufacturers work to the highest standards and are subject to some of the strictest quality controls in the world, so clients are practically guaranteed excellence.”
