Tyne Bank Brewery goes green with eco-friendly can holders

A brewery has reiterated its commitment to sustainability by introducing eco-friendly can holders.

Tyne Bank Brewery says the holders are 100 per cent eco-friendly and made from recycled, fully biodegradable wood pulp.

The introduction of the holders extends the independent Newcastle cask ale house’s sustainability efforts, having previously switched can packaging from plastic to cardboard.

It also donates used hops and malt grains to Hillheads Farm, in Backworth, Newcastle.

Julia Austin, Tyne Bank Brewery founder, said: “Sustainability is at the forefront of what we do.

“Whether you’re a brewer producing cans of beer or a consumer drinking them, we all need to commit to reducing single use plastic.

“We’re proud of doing our part in reducing the planet’s plastic waste problem and helping to reduce the long-term threat to the environment.”

Elsewhere, Tyne Bank Brewery recently partnered with local social enterprise, The Artisan Baking Community, to encourage businesses to care more about the environment.

Julia continued: “Our Brew and Bake workshops have proven really popular with several businesses in the area.

“They’re a fun team-building experience, where waste from our brewing process is collected and used to bake wonderful bread.

“Any leftover bread is then used in our casks.

“It’s a full end-to-end sustainable workshop.”
