Newcastle Building Society continues branch investment with new Hexham opening
October 23, 2019
A mutual is preparing to open the doors to a new branch as part of a multi-million-pound investment programme.
Newcastle Building Society has created a new full service and financial advice branch in Hexham.
The base sits on the ground floor of the former Dickinsons store, opposite Hexham Abbey.
It is due to open for the first time at 9am on Monday, October 28, with an official opening event planned for 11am on Thursday, November 14.
The 1,410sq ft Beaumont Street space has been transformed over the last two months, with a community area – offering free space for local people, groups and good causes – included in the design.
The opening forms part of a wider branch improvement programme at the mutual.
Bosses say it is more than two thirds of the way through the scheme, which will see work on new or improved facilities in every part of its existing network and new branches opened in a number of locations.
It has already opened a new branch in Barnard Castle, County Durham – having previously shared space with another business in the town – revealed an expansion into Bishop Auckland and confirmed new operations in Hawes, North Yorkshire, and Wooler, Northumberland.
Elsewhere, the business has renovated a site on Consett’s Middle Street and will soon move into a new branch in South Shields’ Denmark Centre.
Stuart Miller, customer director, said: “We are continuing to invest heavily in maintaining and enhancing a modern branch network that sits right at the heart of our operations and we remain firmly committed to contributing to the vitality of successful, sustainable local communities like Hexham.
“We’re moving into a fantastic landmark location in Hexham, which has the Abbey just over the road, and we’re extremely pleased to have been able to bring this important site back into use.”
