Tolent wins contracts worth £38 million following work on NHS Nightingale in Sunderland

Gateshead-based contractor Tolent has welcomed five new contract wins across the North East and Yorkshire, worth £38.2 million in revenue to the business.

The projects will see more than 260 new homes built for clients includeing Gentoo, Centura Homes, Bernicia, Chapter Homes and The Joseph Rowntree Trust.

Start dates have been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but following Government advice, many sites have been able to re-open in line with site operating procedures issued by Build UK and Public Health England.

Some of the measures put in place on site include re-programming works to minimise the number of people on site, staggering shifts and break times, providing full time cleaning services, implementing one-way access to work areas and at all times carrying out modified risk assessments on social distancing.

Tolent CEO, Andy McLeod, said: “From the start of this global pandemic, the health and wellbeing of our colleagues and supply chain partners has continued to be our number one priority.

“By administering rigorous social distancing and health and safety protocol, we have been able to safely reopen most of our sites and we continue to monitor the situation diligently.

“From supporting our most vulnerable colleagues to remain at home, assisting others to work from home and continuing to pay our subcontractors; we are committed to supporting everyone.”

Tolent has also donated a number of items of PPE to the NHS front line to express its thanks to key workers across the region.

Andy explained: “The dedication shown by our NHS and care providers has been incredible, and this deserves our thanks and praise.

“I’m particularly proud of our teams who have answered the call for PPE in donating masks, coveralls and gloves to our brilliant frontline workers.”

Tolent was also involved in the completion of the NHs Nightingale Hospital in Sunderland.

Leading a region-wide team to transform the vacant building in Washington into a facility with capacity for 460 beds for patients with COVID-19, Tolent worked around the clock to deliver the temporary in just over three weeks.

The hospital is for patients from across the North East and Cumbria.
