Airlines continue to serve the North East from Newcastle Airport

In order to support those who need to travel for essential reasons, several flights from the North East’s largest airport continue to operate despite the current national lockdown measures.

Government guidelines permit travelling for a number of reasons including for work and education.

KLM, British Airways and easyJet continue to serve the north east from Newcastle International Airport as follows:

·       KLM up to 14 flights a week (twice daily) to Amsterdam and to onwards connections

·       British Airways up to 5 flights a week to London Heathrow and to onwards connections

·       easyJet up to 4 flights a week to Belfast​

Many destinations now require passengers to provide a negative COVID-19 test on arrival. The Airport has worked with two local medical companies to provide a convenient and efficient on-site testing clinic for passengers who need it.

The facility, operated by NPH Group, provides PCR COVID-19 tests and issues a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate for passengers flying outbound. For passengers arriving into the region, NPH Group is also one of the Government approved providers of the ‘Test to Release’ scheme. The scheme allows passengers arriving from a destination not on a travel corridor to reduce the mandatory 10 day quarantine period by taking a COVID-19 test 5 days after arrival.

Richard Knight, chief operating officer at Newcastle International Airport said: “We recognise the importance of regional connectivity and even in the current lockdown there will be members of the public who are required to travel.

“As such, we have worked closely with our airline partners to ensure that our key business routes remain operational and the Airport stays open for those who need us.

“Our Ten Point Plan of safety measures ensures the terminal is a safe environment for all and our new on-site testing facility, which provides Fit to Fly as well as Test to Release COVID-19 PCR tests provides an efficient and convenient service for passengers.”
