New jobs on the way for Cramlington industrial estate

New jobs are soon to be created on a 10-acre site in Cramlington, following a commercial deal by the North East’s largest independent commercial property consultancy.

Newcastle-based Naylors Gavin Black has secured a new five-year letting for the 100,000 square foot premises located at Nelson Park Industrial Estate, which are to be used as a factory and warehouse.

New tenant Merit, a sustainable off-site construction specialist, will also retain an option to purchase the property.

The building, which has a secure yard area and is served by the nearby A189, was formerly occupied by plastic manufacturer Jaycare but it has been out of use for several years.

Keith Stewart, Partner at Naylors Gavin Black, said: “After falling into disrepair and laying empty for such a long period, it will be fantastic to see this space help a successful local company grow further.

“The area is a great one for businesses and employers of all kinds, with a number of other commercial estates and many local amenities only a short distance away.”

Naylors Gavin Black acted as joint agent alongside Frew Pain & Partners, another commercial property agent, to secure the deal.

Nelson Park Industrial Estate comprises 75 units totalling 343,056 square feet, providing a significant number of employment opportunities to the region.

The new premises will complement Merit’s existing workshop on the neighbouring Admiral Business Park, as well as its London and Glasgow properties.

Owned by private investor Hollowvale Ltd, the building will now provide an additional factory for Merit, whose head office is on Northumberland Business Park, and will be a strategic site for its ongoing projects.

In November 2020, Merit completed construction of two new laboratories for medical testing company SGS to undertake quality control and analytical testing services in support of COVID-19 vaccine candidates.
