Washington metalwork firm keen to bolster team after strong start

An architectural metalwork firm plans to fashion further jobs after a successful first year.

Neil Hood Bespoke says it is “on the lookout” for staff to build on “very healthy” demand.

The Washington-based business designs, makes and installs products including staircases and balustrades, with its order book featuring a number of London-based projects.

And with clamour for its services continuing to rise, founder Neil Hood says he is keen to add to its three-strong team.

He said: “We’ve got a lot of projects on, and we are tendering for numerous projects too, so it’s looking quite bright for the future.

“And as we grow the business in the coming months, we will be on the lookout for more skilled staff to join our team.

“There’s currently three of us, but I’m about to take on another employee.”

And Neil revealed the expansion will include a focus on the younger generation.

He said: “It’s quite a challenge trying to find the right staff, and you really need to train your own people for the level of work we undertake.

“You’re not going to find someone that can just fall into the way we want them to work, there’s a lot of training involved.

“With the apprenticeship schemes available, it is worthwhile taking apprentices on and allowing them to learn from scratch.”

Neil has received support from Sunderland City Council’s Business Investment Team to nurture and grow his venture.

He added: “It’s been a great help; they backed the project from the start and had faith it would be successful and create jobs for the region.”
