A power systems firm has expanded into a new base it says will deliver “exponential” growth and new jobs.
Armah Switchgear has moved into a 41,000sq ft site on Washington’s £80 million Hillthorn Business Park.
Officials say the shift in headquarters – which replace a unit on the nearby Glover West Industrial Estate – will allow the business to add to its 60-strong workforce, strengthen its apprenticeship school and upgrade machinery.
Founded more than 30 years ago by Alan Hawkins and Andrew Mayo, the power systems firm has supported projects that include the delivery of floodlighting on Tyne Bridge and works to The Shard skyscraper, in London, and Everton Football Club’s Goodison Park ground.
Alan said: “Our turnover has risen considerably over the last 12 months, and we are exceptionally busy with some prestigious projects.
“Our new premises will enable us to phase production more appropriately and then we can grow exponentially.
“We are investing in new, modern equipment for storage and will be upgrading some of our production tooling.”
The company was supported by Durham City-based law firm Swinburne Maddison to secure a 15-year lease on its new base, with commercial property partner Gillian Moir completing necessary legal work.
She said: “We were delighted with this instruction – our first from Armah – to assist with its ambitious move.
“Along with extra floor space in the warehouse, there are also 3300sq ft of offices on the first floor, so the site has all the makings of an ideal base for the years ahead.”
Alan added: “Swinburne Maddison have been excellent from the outset, supporting us through the contractual issues and patiently staying with us right to the end.”
