A subsea engineering firm is eyeing further growth following a takeover.
South Shields’ DME Systems is now part of US-based ocean health company Woocheen.
Bosses say the deal highlights the “continued attractiveness of the region as a global player in renewable and offshore energy”.
Providing “growth potential and problem-solving opportunities” for 2021-founded DME – which builds and modifies subsea vehicles and control systems – they add it will strengthen Woocheen’s offshore, nearshore and onshore ground investigation departments and allow the roll out of new clean energy and climate science services.
The business arm of Sealaska, an indigenous-owned Alaska Native corporation, Woocheen’s seas geosciences business is presently investigating the geology of the Mediterranean seabed.
Darren Coombe, DME Systems director, said: “Joining the Woocheen platform is an important milestone and next step in what has been a remarkable growth journey.
“We are aligned with Woocheen across key aims, cultures and shared visions.”
Terry Downes, Woocheen chief executive, added: “It’s a really exciting time with DME Systems coming in to support our wider seas geosciences businesses and unlocking even more capabilities in subsea technology.”
