Breedon Group cements regional presence with DurhamGate switch

An aggregates and asphalt firm has cemented its presence in the North East with a move to larger premises.

Breedon Group is switching to DurhamGate, on the outskirts of Spennymoor.

Bosses say its new 4500sq ft office will fuel further growth at the company, which previously expanded following deals to buy parts of the Cemex and Express Minimix businesses.

The firm – which is presently based at Raisby Quarry, in Coxhoe, County Durham, and employs 300 staff in the region, will move into its new home in February.

Louise Hall, Breedon Group’s area customer services manager – North East, said: “While we are a UK-wide business, it is important for us to offer our customers a local service.

“The move to DurhamGate will provide us with an excellent opportunity to grow as a team and strengthen our business in the North East.

“We have grown our workforce through organic development and acquisition, and we think DurhamGate, as a prime business location, will help us attract future employees as we grow.”

Dean Cook, managing director of DurhamGate developer Arlington Real Estate, said Breedon Group’s arrival represents another significant coup, coming as it does after confirmation of a 299-job Durham Police building and a 58-job care home on the site.

He added: “We are delighted Breedon Group will become the next nationally-recognised business to locate to DurhamGate.

“We have continued to invest in the site, making it an attractive location for businesses looking not only for modern space, but also a high-quality environment with a vibrant and welcoming community.”

DurhamGate is already home to housing provider LIVIN and national training provider Learning Curve Group, and it also includes in excess of 300 homes.
