Castle Building Services secures PragmatIC Park contract

An engineering and building services firm has been appointed principal contractor on a £70 million factory development.

Castle Building Services is leading work on PragmatIC Park at Meadowfield, near Durham City.

The base will be home to circuit maker PragmatIC Semiconductor, which says the site will help deliver around 125 new jobs and ramp production into the billions.

As principal contractor, Castle Building Services is working alongside In Architecture, Kinetic Engineers, Portland Consultancy, BlueKeep Building Control and Northern Engineering Services on the plant.

Headquartered in Hebburn, Castle employs more than 130 staff across offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Teesside and Leeds, providing building, mechanical, public health, renewable and electrical engineering services.

Andrew Dawson, managing director, said: “Teamwork will play a big role in this project.

“We will work alongside a range of high-calibre North East companies to install specialist infrastructure, including renovation works and enhancement to the building structure, to incorporate the clean room and associated laboratories and offices.

“PragmatIC Park is a huge coup for the region.

“As well as the investment in innovative technology and high-value manufacturing, it will bring hundreds of new jobs to the area, as the North East continues at the forefront of sustainable digital technology.”

Ken Williamson, PragmatIC Semiconductor chief operating officer, added: “We are really excited about our new site.

“We look forward to ramping up production to meet the growing global demand for embedding electronics in everyday objects.”
