Construction Leadership Council submits recovery plan to Government
July 1, 2020
The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has developed and submitted its recovery plan for the industry to the Government.
The document sets out a three-phase plan – restart, reset, reinvent – for the next two years.
The news comes as the Government has issued a national infrastructure and construction procurement pipeline for 2020/21.
The pipeline includes 340 contracts with an estimated value of £37 billion, of which £2 billion is allocated to the North East.
More than 80 construction companies in the North East came together to develop the CLC’s construction strategy – ‘One Voice’.
The strategy sets out how the region’s construction sector can be transformed and aspire the be the greenest in England.
It has been developed by the CLC in partnership with Constructing Excellence and Construction Alliance North East.
John Nielsen, director of CK21 Ltd and chair of the Construction Industry Council in the region, said: “The construction industry is facing a period of transformational change driven by the need to address the recovery from the lockdown, climate emergency, secure our economic resilience and deliver high quality construction outcomes.
“With strong leadership and by working as a united industry, change is achievable. These are highly unusual times, yet our industry will always be required – and our work will always be necessary.
“However, when the industry gets back into gear after COVID-19, what will be different, what has to change and how can we do this? We must be able to adapt to ever changing circumstances and continually develop ourselves.
“I believe this strategy and its associated action plan provide the opportunity for the North East region to lead the way.”
