Subsea firm Supergrip (UK) Limited lands £1.7 million Caspian Sea deal

A subsea engineering firm is primed for record results after landing its largest-ever hardware contract.

Supergrip (UK) Limited has secured a £1.7 million order with a global engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning company for a project under the Caspian Sea.

Bosses at the Darlington-based firm say it will supply, manufacture and test a range of fabricated and machined hardware – including tensioners, bearings and winches – for subsea platforms to be constructed in the world’s largest inland body of water.

It will also offer engineering assistance.

Known for working with clients in countries such as Malaysia, Australia and Norway, Supergrip supplies equipment used to protect subsea umbilicals, flexible risers and steel pipelines, and is run by directors Gordon Conlon and Darren Blackburn.

Speaking about its Caspian Sea contract, Gordon confirmed it will help the firm, which runs its engineering offices on Darlington’s Coniscliffe Road, deliver record financial results.

He said: “These are exciting times and since we rebranded in 2015, we have seen significant growth.

“The latest contract, which comes in the wake of other exciting projects secured this year, will allow us to progress further and result in the company posting record results at the end of the financial year,” added Gordon, who is pictured with designs for Caspian Sea-bound subsea equipment.

He also revealed two further research and development projects are at an advanced stage, thanks to business funding assistance.

“We are excited about the potential of both products, with the first about to be launched within the next month,” added Gordon.

“Winning this contract is reward for the diligent work put in by our team over the course of the past three months to provide the optimum solution to an extensive scope of supply,” added Darren.

“We are delighted with how the hardware side of the business is developing, with a number of completed contracts receiving some excellent client feedback.

“Our goal now is to continue this growth by developing products and new market sectors.”

As well as its Darlington offices, Supergrip has a production facility in Colne, Lancashire, and CNC machine shops in Accrington.
