Design plans underway as consultancy appointed to transform iconic hotel

A leading firm of chartered building surveyors and specialist project managers is to oversee the transformation of a landmark Tyneside hotel.

Silverstone Building Consultancy has been appointed to project manage the multi-million pound refurbishment of The Park Hotel in Tynemouth, which was acquired by the rapidly expanding Inn Collection Group last month.

The prominent art deco building, which overlooks Longsands beach on the resort’s Grand Parade in a conservation area, will undergo external repairs and restoration works to improve its facade, as well as an internal redesign, and plans for a sympathetic potential extension are also being worked up.

Phil Bone, senior associate director at Silverstone Building Consultancy said: “The Park Hotel is an iconic building in one of the most visited coastal towns in the country, and with our team already involved in refurbishing other properties in The Inn Collection Group’s portfolio, including Ambleside’s Churchill Inn and The Stables at Cross Butts in Whitby, we can’t wait to get started.

“A strong design team has now been appointed and we have no doubt the property will become a destination once again, as we work to improve upon its former 1930s glory.”

Design work is underway for the project, which will involve partners including GSS Architecture, BXB Interiors, Sine Consulting, Maughan Reynolds Structural Engineers and Roberts Environmental, and re-opening is currently planned for summer 2022.

This latest acquisition brings The Inn Collection Group’s pubs with rooms portfolio to a total of 22 stunning properties across the north of England.

Sean Donkin, managing director for The Inn Collection Group, added: “We’re delighted to be working with Silverstone Building Consultancy again for our venture into Tynemouth with The Park Hotel, and the continuation of our ‘eat, drink, sleep and explore’ brand.

“The team shares our commitment to reaching the highest of standards, and has a proven track record of producing exciting refurbishment projects.”

Silverstone Building Consultancy was established in 2009 and has offices in Newcastle and Leeds city centres. Other ongoing projects for the firm include overseeing a hotel revamp in Liverpool, retail refurbishments in Cumbria, Durham and Leeds, an office renovation in Newcastle and industrial refurbishments in Doncaster and Cheshire.
