Growth signs are good for Astley as bosses hail strong decade
November 14, 2019
A signage and brand graphics supplier has plans for further expansion after celebrating a decade of growth.
Astley aims to lay a platform for additional success by adding to its workforce, strengthening its client base and investing in cutting-edge machinery.
The plans come as the business, which designs, makes and installs brand graphics for firms such as Sainsbury’s, BP, Esso and Sky, marks the tenth anniversary of switching to its purpose-built, 62,000sq ft Gateshead headquarters.
Bosses say the move has helped Astley’s workforce rise 30 per cent to 126 and supported a talent development programme nurturing apprentices across the business.
Gavin Redhead, commercial director at Astley, which is known for making and installing the Great North Run sponsor’s sign on the Tyne Bridge, said: “It’s only when we sit back and analyse the past ten years that we realise just how much we’ve achieved.
“The challenge now is to build upon these achievements and continue to grow as a business, adding to our client portfolio, investing in new, industry-leading machinery and equipment, and recruiting both experienced and young talent who share our vision for success.
“When we moved into our custom-built facility on Team Valley, which was designed specifically to ensure our business objectives could be achieved, it was with a clear strategic ambition – to grow and establish Astley as a leading manufacturer within the signage industry.
“There’s no doubt we’ve achieved that.
“It is such an exciting time for the company.”
As well as its Gateshead base, Astley runs a creative facility in Kettering, Northamptonshire, which employs 36 staff, and further sites in Glasgow and Leeds.
In late 2018, Astley and its sister operation Sign of the Times triumphed at the British Sign and Graphics Awards.
The pair scooped a collective four wins in categories for Rollout Programme of the Year, Illuminated Sign of the Year, Craftsman Award and the Innovation Award.
