Hartlepool’s J&B Recycling reaffirms growth aims after Urbaser deal

A waste management firm says it will continue to grow following a takeover deal.

J&B Recycling has been bought by environmental services company Urbaser.

Bosses at Hartlepool-based J&B say the deal will support the company “in our next chapter…to continue our growth”.

Holding a number of local authority contracts, J&B additionally has more than 1600 trade contracts through which it serves nearly 700 commercial customers in the region.

Vikki Jackson-Smith, J&B chief executive, said: “When it came to looking for a partner that could support the business in our next chapter, Urbaser ticked all of the boxes.

“This deal will allow us to continue our growth within an organisation with shared values and goals.

“It will also provide the enhanced support for our team and customers that comes with being part of a company of Urbaser’s scale and calibre.”

Cheltenham-based Urbaser has delivered environmental services across the world since 1990, with its parent company the third largest environmental services provider in Europe.

In the UK, it supports more than 14 local authorities and 4.5 million people.

Javier Peiro, Urbaser managing director, added: “The acquisition of such an experienced and well-established operation within the North East represents a significant step in our ambition for growth within the UK marketplace.

“We are excited to welcome nearly 200 new employees to the Urbaser family.

“We look forward to building on the success of J&B within the region and continuing to deliver exemplary levels of service to the significant network of local authority and commercial and industrial customers.”
