Hellens Residential expands North East portfolio after upturn in demand

Social housing provider, Hellens Residential, has grown its portfolio by 50 per cent in the first half of 2019 with only a handful of properties remaining after an upturn in demand.

In the North East alone, Hellens Residential has brought 79 new properties to market in the last six months.

Built in areas like Darlington, Stockton and Middlesbrough, the mix of bungalows, apartments and two to three-bedroom homes have been snapped up by house-hunters looking for affordable rent, rent to buy and discount sale options.

Hellens Residential will also be launching the third phase of new properties in Norton and Stockton, working with building specialists Barratt Homes to accelerate delivery.

This phase includes the building of 15 new homes on the Jubilee Gardens site, which is within easy reach of the A66 and A19 roads.

Kate Hellens, managing director of Hellens Residential, said: “We all know how difficult it can be to get on the property ladder, so we’ve been elated at how many people we’ve so far been able to help secure an affordable home in the region.

“We pride ourselves on the quality of our properties too, and Jubilee Gardens is a great example of the type of options we provide so all our residents can enjoy a great standard of living at a manageable cost.”

Hellens Group is also working with Darlington Borough Council on the delivery of Burtree Garden Village, a 2000-home site at Faverdale, as well as 200,000sq meters of employment space to supports jobs and growth in the region.

Kate added: “It is our intention, with the support of Homes England, to make 500 of these properties affordable homes. This will significantly strengthen the offer of affordable homes in Darlington and provide a greater choice to meet a wide range of needs.

“The development will also include on-site amenities such as a care home, retail facilities and space for a new primary school, with infrastructure upgrades to enhance connectivity in and out of Darlington.”
