Hublot partners with ROX to support The Alan Shearer Foundation
January 18, 2017
The 10 years celebration marks the pivotal moment in the world of Haute Horology when Hublot pioneered the first iteration of the All Black Concept with unlikely pairings of materials coined the ‘Art of Fusion’. Boundaries were challenged and Hublot had the foresight to believe that much more was required in the creation of an icon than traditional watch-making history. Hublot continues this pioneering and daring spirit to the present day with the demonstration of science. innovation and engineering to develop and enhance the ever-evolving Big Bang collection.
During the charitable and festive evening, Benoit Lecigne, Brand Director for Hublot United Kingdom, France, Belux & Eastern Europe, revealed a special watch, the King Power Unico Alan Shearer. One of the special pair will be worn by the legendary football player while the other one will be auctioned at The Alan Shearer Foundation annual charity Gala Dinner taking place on 18th February 2017.
The Alan Shearer Foundation was launched in May 2012 to exclusively support the Alan Shearer Activity Centre. In the 4 years since its launch, the Foundation and its supporters have raised almost £2m, which has financed major upgrades to the Centre’s sensory rooms and equipment, added a specialist outdoor play area and funded the £500,000 expansion of the hydrotherapy pool with state of the art equipment. Funding from the Foundation ensure disabled people and their families are able to benefit from the facilities at the Alan Shearer Centre totally free of charge, making it the only Centre of its kind in the region available at no cost.
Alan Shearer stole the show and captivated the audience’s competitive nature with an inspiring yet intimate Q&A conducted by fellow football fanatic, the specialist presenter Geoff Shreeves. Guests attending the event at Newcastle’s Monument Hall ROX Boutique were then treated to the unique preview of the special watch Hublot partnered charity timepiece, the new King Power Unico Alan Shearer. Among the audience, some special guests attended the event such as Ayoze Perez, football player at Newcastle United FC, Juan Pablo Socino, rugby player at the Falcons, Phil Mustard, Durham and Gloucester cricketer, Peter Ramage, English football player and Freddie Shepherd, English businessman and former Chairman of Newcastle United FC.
The long-standing relationship between Hublot and champion footballer Alan Shearer spans a decade. This poignant anniversary also has its own significant and personal meaning to Alan Shearer given that it is 10 years since his retirement, yet he maintains the record for the highest ever goal scorer in the Premier League, achieving a total of 260 goals throughout his career. The case-back of the King Power Unico Alan Shearer watch features an engraving of the footballer’s final goal kick. The same triumphant silhouette is present in the form of a permanent sculpture at the Newcastle Football Club’s home ground.
The special edition ‘King Power Unico Alan Shearer’ 48mm demonstrates the brand’s eponymous ‘fusion’ of materials with the microblasted black ceramic, titanium, black rubber and carbon dial, combined with a white rubber and black calfskin strap featuring contrasting monochrome stitching.
Alan Shearer said “I have been associated with Hublot for nearly 10 years now, during which time we have had an incredible relationship and they have been very supportive of my Foundation. This year they have donated a special piece to auction at the annual Ball with all proceeds going to the Alan Shearer Foundation. Their support and generosity over the years has been incredible”.
Benoit Lecigne, Brand Director for Hublot United Kingdom, France, Belux & Eastern Europe, added, “I encourage all Alan Shearer and Hublot fans to visit ROX website for their chance to bid on this exclusive Hublot timepiece which benefits the Newcastle community greatly. We are proud to have the opportunity to work alongside Alan Shearer for this truly remarkable cause.”
