Irwin Mitchell support local charity to open new sensory garden

Full-service law firm Irwin Mitchell is celebrating after seeing its support for a local charity lead to the opening of a new sensory garden that was featured on BBC Gardener’s World.

Headway Darlington & District is the local division of a charity that provides services and activities for brain injury survivors, their families and their carers.

The sensory garden aims to support people by offering them the chance to help out in the garden, as part of the regular activities they do to aid their own therapy.

The Newcastle office of Irwin Mitchell has been supporting Headway for some years, with funding and now the sponsorship of the new garden.

Personal injury solicitor Alastair Elliot led the effort to provide funds to the charity and is heavily involved with the group.

The grand opening was attended by the BBC, Irwin Mitchell staff and Headway members and trustees who were able to explain more about the charity’s work and the difference the garden will make.

Alastair Elliot from Irwin Mitchell’s Newcastle office said: “The garden has been an exciting project for our Headway group. In addition to our existing activities, we are looking forward to having a gardening club for our members.

“The garden will also give our members a place that they can go to spend time in and relax, something which is really important for those recovering from head injuries.

“Irwin Mitchell’s support for Headway, both regionally and nationally, helps projects like this to be realised, helping brain injury survivors in their rehabilitation journey.”
