Just Eat rival eyes national growth after Gosforth move
November 16, 2020
A food delivery service launched to rival Just Eat has moved into 1300 sq ft of new office space in Newcastle.
Run by North East entrepreneurs and web designers, David Duff and Roger Byrne, The FoodHouse has set up shop in the recently redeveloped Baker’s Yard in Gosforth.
The FoodHouse has been operating for just over two and a half years, offering a digital ordering service to restaurants and takeaways and taking a much smaller percentage commission than many of its competitors.
90 per cent of the company’s client list is currently located in the North East but there are plans to extend further across the UK to 1000 restaurants and takeaways by the end of 2021.
Bosses say that the new office, as well as specialist appointment in business development and technology, will enable The FoodHouse to achieve its growth goals.
In recent months, the team have also been working on a ‘Tablepay’ feature – a coronavirus friendly application, which enables customers to pay for services without the need for cash handling or card payments in person.
David Duff, co-owner of The FoodHouse, said: “The business has undergone significant growth this year and we knew we needed new premises to facilitate the rapid expansion.
“Indeed, we are lucky to be in one of the sectors that has managed to continue to flourish throughout the pandemic as the number of people ordering food directly to their homes has increased.”
Co-owner Roger Byrne added: “Baker’s Yard was the right location for us. The history of the site isn’t lost on us as a business in a food related industry.
“Our business model is geared around giving independent businesses a platform through which to market their offer in a cost-effective way and the team are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead to continue our growth.”
Baker’s Yard is a creative business hub located on the site of the original Greggs Bakery. The site, which is owned and managed by Newcastle property company Adderstone Group, is nearing completion having undergone significant redevelopment.
