Kromek wins fire service contract for UK radiation protection service

A North East technology firm has been selected by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service to provide radiation detectors.

Kromek’s D3M radiation detectors have been acquired for the Detection Identification and Monitoring Equipment Uplift on the UK’s National Resilience Framework, marking a significant milestone for the firm.

The National Resilience Framework, which supports all blue light services across the UK, will be in place for four years, with an initial order already placed for DIMS vehicles.

DIMS vehicles are deployed to events where there is possible chemical, biological or radiological contamination, including at the site of suspected terrorist activity.

Kromek’s D3M is a highly sensitive gamma/neutron Personal Radiation Detector, offering unmatched situational awareness by constantly monitoring the radiological and nuclear environment.
