Metnor Construction celebrates landmark with £17 million hospital deal

A construction firm has marked its 20th anniversary by topping record contract wins with a £17 million healthcare sector deal.

Metnor Construction is principal contractor on Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s new Cramlington Hospital training centre.

The 6750sq metre development will match teaching space with offices and conference and meeting hubs.

Construction is expected to start this month.

The agreement follows Newcastle-based Metnor’s delivery of residential schemes in Rugby and Warrington, a Kettering healthcare centre and a number of student accommodation contracts.

And Chris Cant, Metnor Group chief executive [pictured below], says it adds further to the business’ COVID-19 rebound, with turnover forecast to hit a record £90 million in 2022 and plans in place to recruit a number of staff for new roles.

He said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 20-year anniversary with such a prestigious win at Cramlington Hospital.

“Like many firms in the construction sector, the last two years have been the most challenging in our history.

“Continuing supply chain issues and soaring prices remain at large but, due to our robust tendering procedures, we’ve been able to deliver projects on time and on budget.

“During that time, we’ve made significant changes, defining and driving our core values and bringing in new operational and commercial professionals.

“This focus has certainly paid off and we’ve got an exciting pipeline ahead.”

Chris McDonnell, Metnor Construction’s pre-construction director, added: “Our growing reputation and credentials in the healthcare sector, coupled with our local delivery team, have played a significant role in helping us secure the Cramlington Hospital appointment.

“It’s a fantastic and exciting opportunity.”
