NE1 ‘ready to support Newcastle’s once-in-a-generation transformation’ after ballot success

A business improvement district company says it is excited to play its part in a city’s “once-in-a-generation transformation” after being returned for a fourth term.

NE1 has secured overwhelming backing to continue its work across Newcastle city centre.

Bosses say the vote – which was secured with 93 per cent support – will unlock around £11.5 million of ringfenced investment across the next five years.

They say it will also push forward a blueprint that includes a commitment to creating a stronger business voice and delivering events to promote Newcastle to national and international audiences.

Stephen Patterson, NE1 chief executive, said: “Newcastle is in the midst of a once-in-a-generation transformation; there are opportunities that need to be grasped and issues that need addressing if the city is to be the absolute best it can be.

“The scale of the vote provides a strong mandate to forge ahead and speaks volumes of the passion and ambition businesses have for the city.”

Pointing to headline achievements over NE1’s previous three terms, which include a Bigg Market regeneration project and Newcastle Restaurant Week, Stephen added: “We have a dedicated and hardworking team, who are committed to delivering for Newcastle and its businesses.

“And we recognise and appreciate the faith those businesses have in us.

“This is an exciting time for Newcastle, and the city region, and we look forward to stepping up and playing our part in how it progresses.”
