Newcastle Helix wins EG Collaborators Award 2019

Newcastle Helix are celebrating after winning the Collaborators Award in the EG Awards 2019.

The EG awards celebrate those individuals and businesses at the forefront of innovation in the property and built environment industry and were hosted and presented by Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman and EG magazine’s editor, Samantha McClary.

The event was held at the Grovenor House Hotel in London on October 22. It’s mission is to recognise that sustainable growth and positive change are just as important as financial performance and deal-making.

Hundreds of entries were judged by a diverse group of real estate professionals with Newcastle Helix shortlisted alongside six other businesses for the collaboration award.

Attending the event and picking up the award on behalf of Newcastle Helix were Michelle Percy, director of place at Newcastle City Council, Abi Kelly, executive director of corporate affairs at Newcastle University and Rachel Dickie, head of urban regeneration at Legal & General.

Commenting on the win, Rachel said: “We are committed to creating places that will make a positive difference to local communities, recognising the importance of sustainable growth.

“We are thrilled that Newcastle Helix has been recognised for its innovative and collaborative approach to public-private partnerships.”

Abi Kelly added: “Newcastle Helix embodies the University’s commitment to making a positive contribution to our city and region, and beyond.

“It has become a place where our academics and students come together with industry and other partners to pioneer advances in areas such as Data and Ageing.

“However, we could not have achieved this were it not for the fantastic collaboration we have with our partners at Newcastle City Council and Legal & General, which was recognized by this award.”

Newcastle Helix brings businesses, researchers and communities together on a purpose-built urban development combining commercial and residential space with research and education facilities.

It is being deliver through a public and private sector partnership between Newcastle City Council, Newcastle University and Legal & General.
