Newcastle intellectual property firm continues expansion during lockdown

Newcastle intellectual property firm, Definition IP, has expanded its team to accommodate two new senior associates.

Sam Bloor is a chartered UK patent attorney and European patent attorney and will be working with the engineering, electronic and software team, utilising his expertise in consumer products, energy systems and automotive engineering.

Helena Peat, a chartered trademark specialist, has also joined the business, following her recognition as a rising star by the Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars – a specialist guide to IP law firms and practitioners worldwide.

The appointments will allow Definition to continue to support clients with commercial, legal and technical advice, at a time where IP and innovation is very important to many business needs.

Claire Rutherford, Definition IP director and founder, said: “We are delighted to be expanding the team and the appointment of both Sam and Helena adds real depth of technical knowledge and expertise.

“The business growth reflects the ongoing and growing appetite for innovation in the region which continues to flourish despite the current lockdown.”

Co-founder and director, Dan Mercer, added: “To be expanding the team further during this period of uncertainty is a really positive sign.

“Our client base is already innovative and used to pushing forward in new and resourceful ways.

“The current crisis is, in many cases, proving just how innovative and resilient they can be as they rise to the challenges and opportunities coming out of the situation.”
