North East business leaders celebrated at Great British Entrepreneur Awards

North East entrepreneurs have been showered with accolades at an awards ceremony.

A dozen business leaders picked up honours at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards final.

The London ceremony attracted 1400 guests from across the country, to celebrate the £2 billion and 17,000-plus jobs their endeavours deliver to the UK economy.

In the North East categories, Evidence Based Education’s Jack Deverson was named young entrepreneur of the year, with Emma Black, of Cascade Cash Management, crowned small business entrepreneur of the year.

The start-up entrepreneur of the year honour went to Laura Hepburn, founder of Middlesbrough waste-to-energy firm Greenology [pictured, below], with Trend Bible’s Joanna Feeley awarded the creative entrepreneur of the year title.

Sisters Sophie and Charlotte Wilson [pictured, below] received the sustainability entrepreneur of the year prize for the success of their luxury women’s athletic wear brand YANA Active.

Francesca James, awards founder, said: “The extraordinary circumstances of the last few years have tested the resilience of our business communities, and the challenges were enough to give many entrepreneurs an excuse to give up.

“Instead, our award winners did the opposite and, through ingenuity, innovation and the ability to adapt, they thrived.

“These challenges certainly haven’t gone away, and the next few years will present new obstacles to overcome – but one only needed to look around to gain confidence this snapshot of the economy can go on and adapt again.

“We’d like to congratulate all of our 2022 winners for all of their hard work and achievements.”
