North East firm fits UK’s first plastic packaging-free cosmetics store
January 29, 2019
Last week saw leading cosmetics retailer Lush make history by opening the UK’s first plastic packaging-free concept store – fitted by a North East company.
Newcastle-based Aptus, a specialist commercial fit-out and refurbishment company headquartered at Hoults Yard, has completed the ‘naked’ renovation of the high-tech shop which recently opened in Manchester.
Established for more than 12 years, Aptus delivers projects nationwide to provide comprehensive design and build services with full project management across multiple sectors, including office, retail, leisure and healthcare.
The naked concept, which is supported by a dedicated shopping app, was successfully launched by Lush in Berlin and Milan last year in reaction to environmental concern over plastic pollution. It is hoped it will inspire consumers to make more sustainable shopping choices over the long term.
Alex Scott, UK & Ireland retail project manager for Lush, explained: “We’ve worked with Aptus for many years and we are delighted with their successful delivery of the new naked concept store.
“We particularly wanted to involve the Aptus team in this high-profile project as we value their methodical approach and attention to detail which ensures projects are delivered to deadline and with a high level of competency.”
Chris Price, commercial director of Aptus, added: “It’s always great to work with Lush and we’ve been incredibly proud to be involved in the creation of such an important retail milestone, which has included the use of innovations such as environmentally friendly product packaging and eco-friendly finishes throughout.
“Our considerable expertise enables us to deliver projects in a wide range of sectors and we are currently working on a number of exciting projects where clients are innovating and adapting in response to a range of issues such as new technology, environmental concerns, workplace trends and customer experiences.
“Whilst we have a strong track record in retail, we are finding increased demand for office fit-outs and foresee this being a strong sector for us this year as building owners and occupiers are realising the value of investing in quality workplace environments.”
Other recent projects for Aptus have included Mediaworks’ new head office at The Watermark in Gateshead, the reception of 71 Grey Street, Newcastle, which has been full renovated by Hanro group, and health surgeries in Gateshead and Teesside as well as other Lush stores in Reading, Glasgow and Norwich.
