North East women entrepreneurs back ‘Brilliant Breakfast’

A group of North East female entrepreneurs are coming together to help change the lives of young women in the UK who are the hardest hit group in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Brilliant Breakfast is a new initiative from The Prince’s Trust ‘Women Supporting Women’ which is hoping to ensure that young women’s futures are not predetermined by circumstance.

Kari Owers, founder of Newcastle creative communications agency O, is the first North East ambassador for Women Supporting Women and is hosting a Brilliant Breakfast where she will be joined by some of the region’s most exciting rising young female entrepreneurs.

Kari will chair a discussion between panellists Isabella West, founder of Hirestreet, Laura Kingston, founder of High Life North and young entrepreneur Emma Lamb, who has received help from The Prince’s Trust to start her own social media business.

The event will take place on the morning of Tuesday, October 13 2020 virtually via Zoom. At the same time, Brilliant Breakfasts will be taking place all across the UK.

Kari said: “Our breakfast event is open to everyone and will be similar to a charity coffee morning, with some really interesting conversation. We are asking for a small donation for the ticket and all proceeds will go towards supporting young women in our region, helping them to build their own futures through employment, education or training.

“Young people are amongst the hardest hit by the economic impact of Covid-19 but the latest figures show that almost 80 per cent those who have lost their jobs are women, and two-thirds of these are aged 18-34.

“Research from The Prince’s Trust has found over half of young women say their anxiety has increased because of the crisis and say finding a job feels impossible – this is why it’s more important than ever to support our young women right now.”

The idea for The Brilliant Breakfast came from jewellery designer Annoushka Ducas MBE, who was one of the first ambassadors for Women Supporting Women.

Annoushka said: “I wanted to create an event that could be deployed nationwide from grassroots level and upwards. Breakfast is the least formal and fastest meal of the day so it won’t take up too much of your time, either to host or take part. Our aim is to raise £200,000 by the end of the year.”
