Northern Gas and Power Santas gather to provide £1000 charity cheer

He might be gearing up for a busy night, but Santa – and a few friends – still found time to support a North East charity!

The big man joined more than 20 others from energy procurement firm Northern Gas and Power on Gateshead’s Millennium Bridge to donate £1000 to – and raise awareness of – Business Beats Cancer Newcastle.

Developed by Cancer Research UK’s Newcastle Centre, the endeavour includes the Santa Beats Cancer campaign, which encourages companies to swap traditional festive jumper days for the chance to dress as Santa.

Brendan Garvey, chief people officer at Northern Gas and Power parent firm Global Procurement Group (and one of the Santas), said: “It’s great to support charities that have such an impact in our communities.

“Santa Beats Cancer is a fun, festive initiative, which is at the heart of its community, and we hope it sends out a positive message to people affected by cancer in the region, as well as supporting the battle to beat it.”

Sam Moralee, Cancer Research UK relationship manager for the North East and Cumbria, added: “We really can’t thank everyone at Northern Gas and Power enough for getting involved with our first-ever Santa Beats Cancer.

“This past year proves, more than any other, the value of research and what can be achieved together.

“That’s why we want to harness the people power of our incredible supporters like Northern Gas and Power.”

As well as supporting Business Beats Cancer Newcastle, Northern Gas and Power works with numerous other charities, including Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids campaign and several food banks.
