Northumberland Line deal gives NECS platform for growth

A cleaning firm is on track for growth after sealing a rail contract.

Cramlington-based NECS will maintain new stations on the revived Northumberland Line.

Working with Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, bosses say the company will oversee the upkeep of Newsham, Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth Bebside, Seaton Delaval and Northumberland Park stops over an 18-month period.

The route is expected to open in summer 2024.

Gary Breach, NECS managing director [pictured, above], said: “I’m absolutely delighted.

“This is a very exciting time for Northumberland and the new line will not only improve transport links but create economic opportunities for the area.

“We pride ourselves on supporting our local community through the suppliers we use, creating employment opportunities for local people and supporting causes close to our values.”

Founded in 2006, NECS provides commercial cleaning and facilities management services across sectors including construction, education, manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality.

Dormant since the 1960s, the Government says the Northumberland Line will halve journey times from Newcastle to Ashington to 35 minutes, with services operating seven days a week.
