Peterlee plant fuels ZF’s vehicle camera milestone

An automotive firm’s North East factory has helped steer it to an industry first.

ZF’s Peterlee plant drove global production of smart cameras to more than ten million last year.

Bosses say the east Durham base made in excess of four million cameras, accelerating overall worldwide production numbers beyond the 50 million mark.

ZF, alongside partner Mobileye, designs and makes safety systems that improve driver awareness of surrounding hazards.

Jana Rosenmann, head of ZF’s electronics and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) division, said: “We have been producing automotive cameras since 2008, and have become a global leader through continuous innovation and attention to detail in the design and manufacturing processes.”

Nimrod Nehushtan, Mobileye senior vice president of business development and strategy, added: “This milestone reflects the work we’ve undertaken together to enhance safety for drivers worldwide through ADAS technology.

“This collaboration will continue to provide technology that vehicle owners will appreciate in the years ahead.”

Alongside its Peterlee factory, ZF has production bases in the US, Mexico, China and Poland.
