Record-breaking Darlington Jobs Fair a ‘huge success’

Bosses behind an employment event have hailed it a “huge success” after attracting record numbers.

About 2000 people flocked to Darlington Jobs Fair.

Those attending accessed vacancies and careers advice, with a support hub providing further help on areas such as childcare, work travel and volunteering, as well as health and disabilities guidance.

Employers included Amazon, Wilmott Dixon and the Government, which runs numerous departments, including Treasury operations, from Darlington Economic Campus.

Support organisations included Morrisons Trust, St Teresa’s Hospice and the National Careers Service.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy, said the fair was “a huge success”.

He added: “The support hub, in particular, was a valuable addition, helping people overcome obstacles to moving into work.

“Darlington has a wide range of employment opportunities from manufacturing, science and engineering, hospitality, civil service and many more.”
