Trio building again in Tees Valley on Bede Homes Yarm scheme

A housebuilder has announced plans to deliver homes on the site of a former hotel and nightspot.

Bede Homes is developing an area of the former Tall Trees Hotel – that once included a nightclub – on the outskirts of Yarm, into 21 five-bedroom “luxurious executive” properties.

While adding to the region’s housing stock, the build has further significance, for it marks the first time that three Bede directors have been involved on a scheme in the area since their days at former development agency Tees Valley Regeneration (TVR).

Gateshead-based Bede Homes managing director Joe Docherty was TVR chief executive when it was founded in 2002.

Director Richard Buckley was director of development at the agency, which, among other projects, developed Middlehaven, in Middlesbrough, and Darlington’s Central Park, where homes, a college and a university campus now stand.

Richard recruited another Bede director Andrew Burnett as project director for Middlehaven after taking over from Joe as joint chief executive in 2009.

Joe said: “We are tremendously excited about this development.

“These will be luxurious executive homes and we expect there to be significant interest considering their wonderful location.

“Bede Homes is still a young company, but we are fixed on our vision to be the region’s premier independent housebuilder.

“The previous landowners had planning permission for 35 homes, but we decided to reduce the density because we were mindful of concerns in Teesside about over development.

“These will be stunning homes in a stunning location, and it is also part of our strategy to build bigger and more luxurious homes.”
