Region’s subsea engineering prowess to be showcased at Newcastle event

An industry event highlighting the North East’s subsea capabilities will take place next month.

The Subsea Supply Chain Capability Showcase, organised by Subsea UK alongside the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA), will provide operators with an insight into the region’s subsea knowledge, skills and resources.

Held at Newcastle’s Crowne Plaza hotel on Wednesday, June 12, the free event will feature a series of presentations from manufacturers, technology firms and engineering companies, including Modus, OSBIT, PDL Solutions, Tekmar Group, Wilton Engineering and BEL Valves.

Presentations will focus on new and innovative technology in areas such as process optimisation, emergency pipeline repair, automation and hybrid AUVs.

Neil Gordon, chief executive of Subsea UK, said: “The North East is home to world-class engineering and manufacturing capabilities and since 2012, the oil and gas sector in the region has grown by 40 per cent.

“The supply chain showcase is a unique opportunity for operators to get an overview of the subsea expertise in the area.

“Greater collaboration between the supply chain and operators is vital to ensuring the longevity of the sector and events such as this opens channels of communication, which otherwise might not exist.”

Bill Cattanach, from the OGA, added: “On a recent visit to businesses on the River Tyne and nearby at Blyth, the OGA leadership team was very encouraged by the scale and expertise.

“We have partnered with Subsea UK to bring a group representing 15 operators to the area, which presents a great opportunity for local companies to showcase their skills and capabilities to this influential audience.”
