SNCC thrilled to welcome Sir Anthony McCoy OBE

South Northumberland Cricket Club will host guests at their annual sporting dinner on May 17.

South Northumberland Cricket Club will be welcoming guest speaker Sir Anthony McCoy OBE, the world’s greatest jump jockey, at their sporting dinner this week. He dominated his sport for over two decades, making him one of the UK’s most talented sportsmen.

AP ended his truly phenomenal career as Champion Jockey for the 20th consecutive year, recording 4348 wins (which includes the 2010 Grand National, the prestigious Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase & King George VI Chase).

AP is now an ITV co-presenter and an ambassador for several high profile businesses. He is President of the Injured Jockeys Fund, President of the Professional Jockey’s Association, a Trustee for the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, Patron of RoR, Patron of Alder Hey Hospital, and an ambassador for the Tiny Tickers heart charity.

Charles Dagnall will M.C. the event. A Lancastrian by birth, Charles Dagnall played cricket with boyish enthusiasm and became a major contributor to the Leicestershire cause.

He made his impact in first-class cricket with Warwickshire, where he is best remembered for a dramatic last-wicket partnership of 37 in 13 overs with Mohammed Sheikh, which secured victory against local rivals Worcestershire in the 2001 Benson & Hedges Cup.

Marcus North, chief executive of South Northmberland CC, said: “We are extremely honoured to have Womble Bond Dickinson as our partner for the exclusive dinner along with our media partner North East Times, and supporters ITPS, Brewin Dolphin and Big Purple Productions.

“A huge thank you to our partner ITPS for donating the auction items and to everyone who has donated a raffle prize.

“All proceeds from the event will contribute to funding our extensive junior development programmes, offering cricketing opportunities to all in the local community with more than 250 junior members aged from 6-18 years, learning the skills of cricket, teamwork and encouraging a healthy lifestyle through sport.

“We are very proud to have a number of our juniors earning selection in Northumberland County Squads for the 2018 season.

“We are thrilled to welcome our guest speaker, legendary jump jockey Sir Anthony McCoy OBE. I am especially looking forward to hearing about his remarkable career.”
