Teesside firms take part in government Industrial Strategy consultation at TTE event

Led by Andrew Battarbee, Area Director for Yorkshire, Humber and the North East for BEIS and the Cities & Local Growth Business Unit, the discussion focused on Teesside’s role in UK industry and the importance of delivering a strategy that supports the area’s evolving and increasingly technology-led businesses.

The event, which was chaired by TTE Managing Director Steve Grant, was attended by representatives from organisations including AV Dawson, the Materials Processing Institute, the Nortech Group, NEPIC and IMH Ltd.

It formed part of the consultation process unveiled by Business Secretary Greg Clark in January, for which the Government is keen to engage with businesses and gather views and opinions on the future of UK industry.

The Industrial Strategy is based on ten pillars for growth, including investing in science, research and innovations, upgrading infrastructure, delivering affordable energy and green growth and encouraging trade and inward investment.

Steve Grant, Managing Director of TTE, said: “Teesside continues to have a vital role to play in the future of UK industry and this meeting will have been a valuable part of the Government’s Industrial Strategy consultation. Industry is evolving on Teesside and contains companies making an important contribution to the UK economy through the development of technologies, application of skills, and the delivery of world-class products and services.

“The discussion also highlighted the important role of maintaining the creation of future generations of skilled workers through contemporary technical training that meets the requirements of employers and ensures companies in this area can remain competitive in global markets.”
